In a world captivated with compliance, mediocrity is sanity. People are unfortunately satisfied living up to the status quo – go to school, get a good job, get married, buy a house and have kids. If you stop and think, this life is suffocating and yet it’s accepted as highly liberating. However, the ones living this way are considered to be respected and successful whereas the ones breaking the norms are said to be stupid, weird and obnoxious.
But where is the fun in living a mediocre life? Life can be so much better when lived with fun, laughter, joy, happiness, love, creativity, peace and be appreciating the mundane beauties of existence. Unfortunately, only a few manage to break the societal norms and learn to live their lives thoroughly. They are the rebellious ones who make the world a beautiful place not just for them but for everyone else.
When you consider this quote by Steve Jobs, you realise that being crazy is not just about thinking outside the box, it is creating the box that normal people will think inside of.
“Here’s to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes… the ones who see things differently — they’re not fond of rules… You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can’t do is ignore them because they change things… they push the human race forward, and while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius, because the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
I, in fact, like to think that we are all a little bit crazy, messed up and weird… And that’s exactly what makes us all so unique. We all need to STOP taking ourselves too seriously. We all have different dreams, ideas and a whole bunch of unique experiences to share and thank god for that because life would be pretty boring otherwise. You’ve got to learn to laugh at yourself.
We are all so busy running the rat race that we forget that we’re missing something. We need a higher sense of adventure. We need more fun. We need to be more willing to make bad decisions. We need to care less about how we appear to others and care more about our own personal happiness. We need better stories. We need to be a little crazy.
Now let me just explain what I mean by Crazy-
Crazy: often misinterpreted as a bad characteristic, crazy is used to describe people who are random, hyper, creative, and flat-out fun to hang with.
But what I really mean is-
Crazy. Random. Hyper. Excited. Curious. And this is why you should be a little crazy too.
Bad decisions make up for the best of the stories–
Accept it or not we all have a story and we all at some point in time have made some really pathetic decisions. That’s where the best of the stories come from.
Imagine yourself sitting on a sofa when you’re 60 years old and your grandchild asks you to tell some of your life-stories… What are you going to say? That is when you would realise the regrets of not living a crazy life. I am sure nobody wants to live with regrets, at least I don’t.
So, whatever, it is that scares the shit out of you that’s the thing you need to first on the list. Dance and sing like no one’s watching. Stay out all night to see the sunrise. Travel without an itinerary, Get lost in a new city to find yourself, walk up and talk to the guy that you’ve been crushing on. It’s time to explore life and write some CRAZY stories.
If not now then when? –
Cliché as it may sound, but that’s the truth. It’s time we face it. Now is the time to make as many mistakes as you want and learn from them. If you want to make memories, make them now. Meet as many new people as possible, at work or outside. Spend time with your loved ones. Have crazy nights that you’ll cherish lifelong. This time is never coming back. Have fun. In the end, you’ll be glad you did it.
In the end, you are the decision maker–
Stop thinking about what other people are going to think. It’s your life, you need to live it not them. People will judge you whether you choose to live by the norms or not. Somewhere down the line, they tend to envy your guts as well as regret the choices they didn’t make. After all, it’s difficult for the society to accept a free spirit. But honestly, who cares? If it doesn’t affect your personal peace than trust me it isn’t worth it, just live and let live.
Having said all of that, it’s time be curious and live a crazy life. Go on and make as many bad decisions without any regrets. Write some beautiful stories for your life story. Break the rules. Live on your own terms. Most importantly, be happy and spread happiness… 🙂
TO BE NORMAL IS TO BE SICK
